Description

Please enjoy this delectable, premium, unprocessed, poly-floral, proudly Welsh ‘Wildflower Blossom Honey’ at home. Our gently extracted raw honey is minimally filtered and so retains traces of nutritious pollen, along with high levels of bioactive phytochemicals – valued for their anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-viral, and anti-fungal abilities. DNA analysis of previous harvests suggest a likely high preponderance, 80% plus, of delicious blackberry nectar as the primary floral source for this honey. For unbiased comments on flavour, etc, please refer to reviews via the tab above.

This is a genuine ‘small batch’ honey is from the registered and inspected hives of a single, high welfare, producer/beekeeper in rural Carmarthenshire.

All product was free foraged by bees raised in smaller sustainable apiaries.

STOP PRESS:  And in science news…

During the Summer of 2024, Diana Abousheishaa, an insightful pharmacology student, at Swansea University, laboratory tested our honey during the final thesis for her successful MSc degree. Diana compared our offering with samples from three respected local beekeepers, a random (and assumed processed) cheap Supermarket honey, and one of the the most commonly used artificial sweeteners.

Unsurprisingly, Diana found that traditional raw honey contained the highest extant levels of natural phytochemicals, known to counter metabolic complex conditions (such as high blood pressure and diabetes). Consequently, the unprocessed honeys did very well across the board. But, very proudly, when the Gallic Acid (phenol) and Quercetin (flavonoid) equivalence levels were explored, Gwenyn Maes Chwarel’s honey (very) narrowly took top spot. Our results showed both the “highest mg GAE/0.6g” for bioactive phenols, and the “highest mg QE/0.6g” for flavonoids. These figures equate to 80% more bioactive (anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic and cancer preventing) compounds being present in solution and a 67% higher antioxidant yield, than the processed Supermarket honey sample. The artificial sweetener did not chart.

So, if you’re looking for honey as your healthiest choice, we strongly recommend that you always support a you friendly neighbourhood beekeeper in all your purchases. But, of course, we also humbly suggest that our delicious offering is, arguably, the one that you should choose where available.

Been trying this honey for the last few weeks and it is lovely full of natural flavours and to say that in a teaspoon it has so many of our daily allowance of vitamins it is a win win! It makes a quick breakfast and a great winter cold relief with lemon and ginger in hot water to fight off the sniffles.

I moved away from Cross Hands a very long time ago and I now live in Prestwick in Ayrshire,Scotland. You can Imagine my surprise a year or so ago on Google Maps I came across Gwenyn Maes Chwarel not just in Cross Hands but in the street,Heol Bryngwili where I spent my childhood.(and where I had my paper round as well!)
Honey from Cross Hands,!!,I simply had to give it a go and I did, with Dave sending me my first consignment just before Christmas 2023.Absolutely delicious!
I understood from him that 2024 had been a tough old year for the bees(and for him too)and stocks were consequently going to be limited but, he managed provide me with three jars.
    Consumption will be carefully monitored!
    I will be back,
    Pob Llwyddiant Gwenyn Maes Chwarel!!
    Hwyl am Nawr,
