GETTING THEIR HEADS DOWN?

Some people erroneously believe that bees do not sleep. The truth is that they nap several times during the 24hr cycle. Like teenage humans, young bees actually sleep more than older ones. This extra snoozing could be needed to accommodate the changes going on within their bodies as they take on new roles? *

Napping bees place their heads into open cells in the beeswax and cling on to the edge, an activity which can be misconstrued as feeding or, perhaps, responding to a Beekeeper’s smoker (if you believe the myth that they gorge on honey at a hint of fire). If bees are overcome with the urge to nap while close together, with incredible cuteness, they have even been seen to sleep linking arms.
